Hi tibono,

I've provided the data of Constellation Forte A, to MAME development team, and it had a 5 MHz system clock. Perhaps Novag marketed two different versions of 'A'?

Berger

Sure Berger, as I doubt Novag would have under-rated the clock speed within their own advertisement - a trustable evidence the 4Mhz version existed at launch time of the model. And your assesment is an evidence as well a 5Mhz version existed too. As you wrote upper in the thread: "sometimes, the same computer model has different hardware inside".
That is why a settable option would be great within the emulator, leaving room to use both variants (4 or 5Mhz) in addition to the 10Mhz option offered.
Best regards, Tibono

Hi Tibono!
tibono escribió:I checked the 1986 Novag catalog, it reports a 4Mhz clock speed for Constellation Forte; while the 1987 one reports Constellation Forte B to benefit from 5Mhz.
As you master selectable CPU frequency configuration :#27:, it would be great to enable the 4Mhz setting for Forte A (I assume it is the 1986 first version, so-named once the B was delivered).

Well, I've even seen a Novag catalog in the internet where the Super Expert and/or Super Forte was described with 4 MHz,
so slowly the list of CPU frequencies is increasing to infinity. :(

Adding a higher CPU speed makes sense, because the device would play better (which is of course useful for the user),
but reducing the speed just because it is mentioned in a catalog doesn't make much sense - maybe Novag just intended
to release the device with 4 MHz, but then they did indeed switch to 5 MHz for production.
So as long as nobody can prove that such a 4 Mhz Constellation Forte really exists, I'll not add one more frequency.

Edit: Ok, my mistake, it was the Constellation Expert with 4MHz, not the Super Expert.
So I've changed my mind and I'll add this 4MHz for the cforte.

Regards,
CBF

Hi,

the new update is now available on my cloud folder -
it contains new selectable CPU frequencies for RISC2500, Montreux, Constellation Forte and Super Constellation.

Hallo!

Excellent done as always - Thank You!

Any chance in the future to see RISC-II module for Mephisto Exclusive (...grafiks could be used from Polgar I suppose...)?

Well, that would require a ROM dump and 'hap' to write the hardware driver, so I'd rather say: the chance is very small.

Hi,
a tiny contribution for those who like using realistic 2D artworks; to show 'B' version of Constellation Forte as per Spacious Mind images: get this Board.png and insert it in cforteb artwork, replacing the original one. Keep the original Board.png untouched in cfortea artwork.

About the Forte A clock speed topic (thanks CBF for the latest update), I point out the Novag brochure shows next to the copyright sentence: 'Subject to change without notice'. Maybe they went to 5Mhz in a hurry, to be in a better condition to compete with the Par Excellence! 1986 Selective Search & Computer Chess Reports indeed announced the Constellation Forte as 5Mhz board. 'Jeux et Stratégie' (french magazine) as well, check this page - search for 'Forte' word, both are described.
